Happy first birthday baby steps!!

As Baby Steps celebrates opening on April 2, 2025, we are reflecting on our progress and impact that we have had in our first year.  We are recognizing the continued challenges we face, as our patient list grows and outpaces our resources and revenues.  

We went from a concept to a clinic, starting with one afternoon per week last April and are now open every day and seeing over 130 patients per week. We anticipated serving women who were waiting for Medicaid or Medicaid-ineligible and could not afford the marketplace or other insurance options.  We did not expect to see many women who have private insurance but cannot locate a provider in our county--either they have moved here and are considered "too advanced in pregnancy" or otherwise "too high risk" for the other providers in our community.  They too are coming to Baby Steps. We are limited only by the size of our clinic and the hours in the day.

We provide assistance with Medicaid application, ultrasonography, mental and behavioral health services and co-management with highrisk obstetrical care through remote consultations.  When there are no other options, we turn no one away.   We are now working with University of Florida, FSU College of Medicine, and University of Massachusetts — all extracting data and providing remote and onsite services in mental and behavioral health and improving linkage to local and remote support services.
