Baby Steps is a unique collaboration of public and private stakeholders addressing an important issue at a grassroots level. The Volusia County Health Department outfitted space in their satellite location of 421 South Keech St. We do not pay rent or utilities.
AdventHealth Daytona provided $250,000 in seed money to begin seeing patients before Medicaid contracts were in place, and agreed to continue doing so for Five years, allowing us to see people with no funding sources.
We are a 501c3 created with the sole purpose of procuring funds and running the barrier free perinatal clinic.
We hope to show that this model can fill the gaps in prenatal care in any community, and elevate the outcomes for moms and their children, and that our model of DOH, hospital and private donors will be templated elsewhere in our state.

From our inception, we have emphasized the positive impact of optimal mental and behavioral health. Applying an integration of models and validated screens, we create a safe space for mothers to express their concerns and feel heard and validated. We work with local and online therapists. We collaborated with FSU COM and UF mental and behavioral health programs to both identify and link to treatment. We hope to collaborate with the SMA Psychiatric Residency now in its first year, training 10 new psychiatrists each year, hopefully many staying in our area to practice.
